Took a trip from Carlsbad to Santa Ynez today. Was IFR through 2000
then VFR on top. Got some good pictures out fo the pile of pictures I took. The sunset is awesome with the cloud cover. Beautiful... We left CRQ about 1:30pm IFR flight plan to KIZA. Arrived just before 3:00pm. We were actually able to make a VFR approach into IZA, amazing that the cloud cover did not extend past the mountains. Departed IZA about 6:15pm to head back to KCRQ and what a treat. Was VFR for the first 30 minutes of the flight, then IFR for the remaining hour of the flight. Only the second time for me to ride along in IFR, what an experience. All I can say is I learned I do not ever want to be stuck on top without a sucker hole to get back down. Yikes. Shot an ILS back into CRQ and shut the plane down just before 8:00pm. What a memorable flight... So... I have put the pictures online to share the experience Enjoy! Mike Flyin' 8 |
