Hello from Burt Compton at Marfa Gliders in far west Texas.
My resident/assistant CFIG/towpilot will be taking several days off in 2005 and 2006. (We have a very small staff!) I need some CFIG/towpilot help, and you get to fly at legendary Marfa, site of many US National contests in the 1960's-'70's, and where "The Sun Ship Game" soaring movie was filmed. Low-time CFIG's are especially welcome - we can share some teaching methods you will find useful. If you need to "recertify" or "reinstate" your CFI Certificate, I can accomplish that for you as well. MARFA GUEST INSTRUCTOR 2005 DATES (you can stay a bit longer if you like) JUNE 8-12 (excellent soaring) SEP 23-25 (good soaring) OCT 20-23 (fair soaring) NOV 30-DEC 5 (soarable, possible wave, but always doing training for ratings year-round) Your jobs would be to assist with towing in our easy-to-fly tricycle gear Cessna 150-180 HP w/ climb prop (free checkout/towpilot endorsement), give glider rides in our two Blanik L-23's, give dual recommendation rides with glider pilot applicants prior to checkrides with me, and light maintenance work in our large hangar. You get a free cottage with kitchen (has queen bed if you want to bring your spouse/friend), free area checkout, free local flying (solo in our 1-36 included.) Free "Master" SSA Instructor training also available to qualified SSA Instructors. You buy your airline ticket to El Paso (ELP) or Midland (MAF), rent a car and drive just 3 hours to the grassy Marfa Plateau in the scenic high country of west Texas, between Carlsbad Caverns and Big Bend National Parks. Please note we are not as hot as the rest of Texas - MRF airport is almost 5,000' msl. Nights are cool - bring a jacket for your evening visit to the McDonald Observatory visitor center telescopes or our trip to see the "Marfa Mystery Lights". Recent guest instructors at Marfa include Bob Wander from Minnesota (twice), Matt Michael from Iowa (twice), Leon Zeug from Minnesota and Barry Barkman from Florida. I would like to create a "pool" of guest instructors for Marfa for our mutual benefit. Call me at 800-667-9464 (mornings are best) to discuss, and see our website www.flygliders.com Burt Compton, President - Marfa Chamber of Commerce (www.marfacc.com) SSA "Master" Instructor / FAA Designated Pilot Examiner Marfa Gliders, west Texas www.flygliders.com 800-667-9464 |
