Anybody want to tell me why I shouldn't do it?
Actually I'd welcome hearing about what anyone at Oshkosh has to say about what they see and hear. I can't wait, Christmas in August - Cheap ******* on 'roids (and with a bill) |

I think you've come to the wrong place to be talked out of that particular purchase. I've been salivating over it for a while. If it's as good as it looks I'll be getting on as my present to myself when I pass the instrument check ride. I can't wait, Christmas in August - Cheap ******* on 'roids (and with a bill) I can't wait to hear your review of it. I wonder if the XM weather stuff can be used while in car mode? It would be cool to know if you are driving toward storms or not. |

They say I should get it in the first two weeks of August. My wife found out about it, so I can expect there will be some additional expenses. ;-) Dave ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

I can't wait, Christmas in August - Cheap ******* on 'roids (and with a bill) Hey, Maule, I just received an email from Aviation Consumer announcing a seven page advance review of the 396 they were able to compile after flying with the unit for three days. If you have an online subscription to their website, you can read the report he http://www.aviationconsumer.com/future/news.html -- Peter ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

![]() Maule Driver wrote: Anybody want to tell me why I shouldn't do it? Maule Driver, What do you plan to get out of the 396 besides XM weather and GPS moving map? I use the Lowrance Airmap 1000 for GPS and have been checking out various EFB and XMweather options. While the 396 provides a convenience XMweather/moving map, I find its small display size a drawback. After lugging several stacks of NOS charts in our NY-MI-IL trip, I think the digital charts maybe a better option for longer cross country trips so I am looking for a display system for both weather and digital charts. I have followed threads on XMweather options using PDA, tablet PC or laptops with various pros and cons. Right now, I am leaning towards getting a small Tablet PC with blue tooth for XM weather and Jeppesen FliteDeck electronic charts with moving map. I had thought of getting the IBM X41 tablet 12" tablet PC but the latest Motion Computing tablet LS800 at 8.4" and view-anywhere display seems to be a better option. I am quite aware of increased possibility of hard drive failures at high altitude. However, with most of our flying done at 10,000' and the lack of data on laptop failures due to prolonged usage during commerical flight (with cabin pressure at equivalent of 8000'), I am not too concerned. Here are the links to some websites http://www.metzair.com/fujitsu.html http://www.turbopilot.com/efbx/ http://www.motioncomputing.com/produ...blet_pc_ls.asp |

Yes, you must buy this!!! Go get it now. Seriously. Once again Aviation Consumer comes through for the pilot community ![]() Seriously, I'm very impressed with them for getting this review done and up ASAP. When I first heard about this box I wondered how long it would take AC to get a useful review up, and I hoped it would be soon. I am once again impressed with their service to subscribers. The money I spend on that magazine is well-spent many times over. |
