A friend has convinced me that we should go down to Atlantic City for a day
of walking the Boardwalk, and taking in the sites. Any thoughts about Atlantic City Muni (Bader Field) vs Atlantic City Int.? Brad |

Bader's a lot closer, but you better hurry - it's slated to be closed
within a few months (last time I checked). |

ACY has very long runways and little traffic. The FBO has a courtesy
car that you get for couple hrs if you buy any gas from them. Bader is closer and has better views on approach but is more difficult. -Toly. Brad-
I flew from KABE to KAIY on Mother's Day (yes, of course I took my wife with me). I've heard about them wanting to close the place down, and after I arrived, I understood why. The place is a dump. The runways are in poor shape - although nothing that makes landing there unsafe. There is grass growing out of the cracks, etc. Getting in is a little tricky the first time if you land in a westerly direction (I forget which runway). You'll have to fly out over some of the casinos and then back in. The buildings are so dang high, that I had to do a little slipping to get in comfortably. During normal business hours, there's someone usually waiting to collect your parking fee (I think it was five bucks). They'll be more than happy to get you a cab as well. The other option is to walk - its probably a mile. HTH... The place is a dump *because* the mayor has been trying to sabotage the place for at least 15 years. I've been to both within the last year or so. The short answer is to just
make the flight routine and use ACY. If you like, circle the pattern at AIY once so you get the nice view, then land at ACY. You won't have to worry about tight approaches or whether or not your plane will be safe and sound while your off having fun. If you decide AIY anyway, check the notams and A/FD notes as they used to close at least one morning a week to clean shells and other junk off the runways. Also, 11/29 is almost always the preferred runway with 11 being the easiest approach. 29 requires either a slam dunk westbound once you get over the boardwalk, or some tight circling coming eastbound. Last time I looked, 4/22 has a note saying it can only be used in one direction. No landings on 4 and no takeoffs on 22. I did my requisite landing at AIY once. Every other time since I've just landed at ACY. best, mark "Brad Salai" wrote in message ...
