Bartering: Pilot Training for a Patent Application

Hi everyone. I am a US Patent Agent looking to get my private pilot
licence. If you are a CFI and an inventor, let's do a trade. Neither
one of us want to pay thousands, if we don't have to. Email or post
if you are interested.

Oops, I forgot to mention that I live in the Los Angeles area. Any
airport between John Wayne and Santa Monica would likely work for me.

Unfortunately, there are certain costs (fuel, mandatory inspections
and maintenance, engine ware, hangar/tiedown, insurance, ...)
associated with operating an aircraft, so you would most likely only
trade labor hours. Given the facts that Certified Flight Instructors
currently earn about $30.00/hour, and it takes about 25 hours of
instruction to prepare for the Private Pilot checkride, your savings
would only amount to about $750.00 assuming the patent application
required 25 hours to offset the instruction hours.

You are absolutely right. There are many ways to barter in this
situation; and I am open talking about them. I expected the deal to
be a trade + cash situation. I figured each of us would do what we do
best, and save a little money (even if it is less than a $1000). Or,
maybe I just have to bite the bullet and go the normal route.

I have 2 patents issued and 2 more pending. Total costs (legal/etc) has
run $10,000 to $15,000 each. This could be a good deal for someone. The
process seems to be taking around 5 years right now.

Robert is right, it does cost quite a bit to go through the patent
process. And, for the right person, this could work out great. We
can trade one expensive passion for another.
