After being in "Beta" for over a year, SoarPilot 3.0.0 (SP for short)
is now released and is available for download from the main SoarPilot webpage (www.soaringpilot.org). For those that may not be familiar with this program, it is the ONLY Soaring Computer for PalmOS-based PDA's. SoarPilot is a "Community Developed" application that makes use of our SoarPilot yahoogroup to allow for the users to provide direct input into the features and development of the program. SoarPilot has come a LONG way since the last "officially" released version (1.9.9.1) and it is only due to the strong and positive support of the entire SP user community that the program is as useful and feature-rich as it is today. SoarPilot is designed with both the sport and competition sailplane/paraglider pilots in mind. It enhances a pilot's sectional information helping him/her to make informed speed & distance decisions when flying around the local airfield, going cross-country or heading out on task at a competition. With the membership of the Yahoogroup approaching 600, SoarPilot is in use around the world. In addition, by selecting the "Manual" link on the main webpage, you will be taken to the new SoarPilot Wiki Manual (http://www.soaringpilot.org/dokuwiki). The online manual is now using a Wiki format to allow for keeping the manual current as changes are made. As with the program itself, this manual is open for anyone to register and edit. If you find an error or would like to add something to it, PLEASE do so. * FREE for the Soaring/Paragliding Community! * Runs on wide range of Palm devices due to very modest hardware requirements * Excellent & Timely Support via the SoarPilot Yahoo Group forum (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/soaringpilot) * Still VERY actively developed * Final Glide Computer Including Final Glide around Tasks, Final Glide Over Terrain. Takes into account wind as well. * Moving Map support for In Range/Out-of-Range Waypoints, SUA display, Task Display, Track Trail * Waypoints/Turnpoints including Area Turnpoints * Flight Logger - SoarPilot is on the "Approved Software" list for submission to the OLC * Highly configurable with 10+ setup screens * Special Use Airspace support * Polar database + editor * Import/Export of Configuration, Waypoints, SUA, Flight Logs, etc. * Wind Calculation and Display * Flight & Task Information - Both during and after flight information is provided. * Task Editor including Assigned Area Task support as well as other Paragliding Competition Task Support. * Can process pressure altitude and other enhanced information from GPS, Volkslogger, Cambridge 302/GPSNAV and Colibri/LX Loggers/Computers * Can send configuration, waypoints and declaration to an attached Volkslogger, Cambridge 302/302A/GPSNAV, EW or Colibri/LX Logger * Flight Download Support for the Volkslogger, Cambridge 302/302A and Colibri/LX Loggers * MANY, MANY Other Features. Take a look at the online manual for more details (http://www.soaringpilot.org/dokuwiki). -Mark Hawkins & Paul Gleeson www.soaringpilot.org http://groups.yahoo.com/group/soaringpilot |
