I recently started flying an LS1-F. I would like to hear from other
LS1-F pilots and in particular what was your experience in making the transition to the LS1-F. On my first flights I have started with my trim set full forward. What are your thoughts and what is your routine? Thanks Ken |

Ken,
The best place to get specific information on LS models is the Yahoo! group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LS-gliders/ ken wrote: I recently started flying an LS1-F. I wrote a short story about bailing out of my LS1f that was published in
Soaring magazine back in January 1991.the story was aptly called "Used Parachute sale". I strongly urge you and all LS1f owner/pilots to read this article. The story had some pictures and descriptions of how the ailerons became locked up at full aileron defection and what caused them to lock up..It is very easy to inspect and also very easy for the problem to occur with the LS1f..(I have also inspected several other gliders including LS3's, LS4 and even earlier LS1 (C/D) gliders and found that the LS1"F" is different ( I have no idea how the LS1C, D and F could even all be considered LS1's since they are so incredibly different in nearly every respect they don't even look like they came from the same manufacturer!...) from all the rest in this regard and only the "F" could have had this particular problem. This had to do with the rivets holding the rod end to the push rods becoming locked into a tube exiting the wing root rib... At the time of the incident I contacted LS and suggested (without any malice towards them) that they send notices to LS1f owners......they declined and wouldn't even consider any follow up action.I suspect for fear of liability.......really bad response from any manufacturer IMHO...but that was then and .... they are of course no more....The US FAA did issue a General Aviation Airworthiness Alert AC#4316 dated 10/90 #147...but since the LS1 was "experimental" no AD could be issued... Aside from that......I really liked the LS1f....it was a joy to fly.....when everything was working properly ![]() Please see if you can find this article possibly from SSA archives or contact me and I'll be happy to fax you copies Best of luck and enjoy your new ship........but check it carefully.and often....
