We are searching for relatives of Domina Jalbert, creator of the
parafoil. He is being added to the honor role of the Quebec History of Aviation Museum. Contact Ross Smyth at ? Dear Charles: Confirming phone call we are trying to locate some family members of Domina Jalbert 1904-1991, an inventor of legendary status. Born in Quebec, his family moved to the US when he was a boy to Woonsocket, Rhode Island.. He held over 20 patents for kites, parachutes and balloon designs, and won many awards. He was involved with the barrage balloons that defended England in the war. A film showed his daugher being lifted into the air with the force created by a series of kites. His life hobby created the parafoil, the most radical departure in parachute design since Leonardo da Vinci. He was the 626th person to receive a pilot`s license in the US in 1927. He developed the multi-cell parachute. At times he worked for US Rubber and NASA. He spent the final years of his life in Florida. We are trying to locate some relatives. His daughter is probably still alive. With your many US contacts, any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Ross Smyth, 8965 Tolhurst St., Montreal QC H2N 1W9 - phone 514 388-7445 -- Charles Yeates ZS Jezow PW-6U & PW-5 http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/yeatesc/world.html |

Charles,
Contact North American Aerodynamics. They are located in North Carolina. John Higgins is the owner of that company. They bought the design rights for the Jalbert Parafoil. John is a very nice guy and if he knows anything he certainly will try to help you. By the way...don't take the Parafoil to terminal...the opening will not be very pleasant. jk |
