Default Prop tape

G'day

I have a three blade Warp Drive composite propeller that has clear tape on
the tips.

The tape needs replacing and I would like to know what I can use as a
replacement.

Any ideas?

regards

Ian Donaldson

Hi Ian I assume it's 3M leading edge tape but I don't know for sure.
On my flaperons there is a little interferance between the rivets
under the fabric and the top skin of the wing . I used strips of this
stuff to keep the fabric from being cut and I bet it would work well
onyour prop.

We are just about to apply the original tape that comes with the warp drive.
I know for sure it's 3M but not which type. I'll see if there's any product
numbers on the back and let you know.

I know that you have at least two choices.
1- "3M" #8672
2- "Scapa" tape

For the first one you need to buy at least 2 rolls at over $250. each.
Both are excellent to prevent erosion and abrasion. For example on a
floatplane when the prop hit water whe takiing too fast it is like hitting
nails so this tape is wonderful. I use the 3M on my wind generators blades
and they last forever. www.electrovent.com To be sure that the tape will
stick correctly I roll it with a small 2 in. wide wallpaper roller. You cut
the tape at 2 in. wide (because the roll is 4 in. wide) and you install half
of it (1 in.) on the flat surface of the propeller first and roll it. After
you pull gently the remaining one in. on the curved surface of the blade and
roll it also. Clean your hands before applying because it will leave
fingerprints on the tape and the prop. Even if this tape does not look to
stick too much in position, it will stay there. Clean the propeller
correctly before to remove any oil or fat. Usually the tape is important on
the first 12 inches from the tip of the blade.

I haven't been following this thread, but has anybody thought to call Warp
Drive and ask 'em. They have a good reputation for customer support!
