I just got a room reserved for me and my crew at the
Relax Inn in Hobbs. It is a clean, lower cost motel on the far side of town (remember, though. The far side of town is about 10 driving miles from the airport). The owners are very nice and seem to appreciate us glider types (we leave the rooms clean, so they don't have to work hard to keep the place nice). Don't let the comments of no motels keep you from coming to Hobbs. It is a great place to fly, and the Relax Inn is a nice place to stay. The rooms have fridges, and dressers and working air conditioners. Last time I was there, they even had weekly rate rooms available. You will save far more in motel bill than you will spend on gas for the extra driving by staying there rather than closer to the airport. Steve Leonard |

Why would the SSA have it's headquarters there?
Mike Schumann "Mike the Strike" wrote in message oups.com... Mike Schumann wrote: Do you have a link? No, but I'll quote from the third edition of their Southwest guide and hope they don't kill me: "Hobbs, 69 miles out of Carlsbad and 3 miles from the Texas state line is the center of New Mexico's largest oil field. The town and the hrizontal landscape of the surrounding Llano Estacado is punctuated frequently by the seesaw-like pumpjacks or 'lufkins" stolidly forcing oil to the surface. If you're a soaring enthusiast, Hobbs is worth a visit...snip.....There isn't much other reason to visit Hobbs, but there are several inexpensive motels....." Says it all really - flat boring landscape, smelly oilwells, cheap motels and, occasionally, fine soaring. Mike |
