I've got several questions about the 2000c. My attempt to email Lowrance
has resulted in no information so far. They did say they got the request. I've been unable to see towers displayed on the map pages as shown in the manual. I am unable to see taxiways. I've not found a description of this anywhere. I assume that is what the Taxiways file is and it is only for the larger airports. I've not flown with the 2000c yet. I tried copying the files from the OEM SD to a new 1 GB SD from CompUSA. The files appear in the 'Browse Files' menu just as they do on the OEM SD. However , none of the data is available. The 2000c was purchased 8/15. It took Lowrance a good week to respond to my inquiry. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

John,
I've been unable to see towers displayed on the map pages as shown in the manual. Hmm. Are obstacles activated in the "Map Categories Drawn..." menu? Are you looking at the US or outside? I am unable to see taxiways. I've not found a description of this anywhere. I assume that is what the Taxiways file is and it is only for the larger airports. Yes, only the largest. Look at their website at http://www.lowrance.com/Aviation/tax...surveystat.gif for a directory. Try scrolling and zooming in on JFK, you'll see something. I tried copying the files from the OEM SD to a new 1 GB SD from CompUSA. The files appear in the 'Browse Files' menu just as they do on the OEM SD. However , none of the data is available. Yep, that's called copy protection. The files only work on that one SD card they have been activated with. It still makes sense to back them up to the PC in case you delete them accidentally. The 2000c was purchased 8/15. Check the version of your unit software against the updates available at Lowrance.com. The contents of the OEM SD copy 06/28/2006 02:09 AM 314,085,653 Terrain_Americas.at5 That's the terrain data (duh) for the Americas. There's one available for Europe, too. 06/28/2006 02:09 AM 51,092,233 International Map.lcm That's the background map (major roads, lakes, rivers, big cities et cetera) for outside the US. 06/28/2006 02:09 AM 20,555,242 JepAmr0706.at5 Jeppesen data for the Americas. This one you can update via download and "activation". 06/28/2006 02:09 AM 4,382,606 Taxiways_v1_0.at5 Taxiway maps. There should be a new one available every now and then for free download, with updated maps and new airports. -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH) |

I've been unable to see towers displayed on the map pages as shown in Full map or compass overlay in the Aviation map. You will not see the towers in that mode until you get the range down to a certain amount, say 10 miles or less or something like that. As you increase the range, the lower towers disappear, leaving only the very tall towers, and finally no towers. Guess their reasoning is that if you are using a large range you are high and no problem with obstructions. the manual. I am unable to see taxiways. I've not found a description of this anywhere. I assume that is what the Taxiways file is and it is only That's the file and if you look on the website, www.lowrance.com , you will find they have a file you can download (it's the same one in your present unit, I'm sure) and it contains the larger airports, part of a gov plan. At this point that plan has 80 airports. There is a map of the US showing the airports included in that gov plan. To test, choose a large airport and decrease the range and you will see the entire taxiplan, with labels. I tried copying the files from the OEM SD to a new 1 GB SD from CompUSA. The files appear in the 'Browse Files' menu just as they do on the OEM SD. However , none of the data is available. I don't know about all of the files, but I _do_ know that the Jeppesen database and any files you create with Map Create are assigned to the SD serial/id number of that card. You can't copy the Jeppesen database to another card and have it work. This is stated in the manual. The only thing you can do is use the download facilities and download a new database for $35. When you do, you must download a Jepp file/program which 'unlocks' the encrypted file and assigns it to the SD card you have in the reader on your computer, which you will then place in the GPS unit. All of this is explained in detail on the website. There is an option to purchase a larger card with the Jeppesen database on it, rather than download. ....Edwin -- __________________________________________________ __________ "Once you have flown, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, there you long to return."-da Vinci http://bellsouthpwp2.net/e/d/edwinljohnson |
