you.................... Soaring Society officer arrested for alleged embezzlement Last Update: 10/12/2006 8:47:47 AM By: Associated Press HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Hobbs police detectives have arrested the chief financial officer of the Soaring Society of America and accused him of embezzling $142,000 from the organization over a two-year period ending in July. Police say records indicate 55-year-old Alan Gleason allegedly wrote and forged checks to himself. Police say he also used the organization's credit cards at restaurants, convenience and retail stores and for adult entertainment and gasoline. Gleason was arrested on a charge of embezzlement over $20,000, a second-degree felony. He is being held at the Hobbs jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. The Soaring Society of America, headquartered in Hobbs, was formed in 1932 to foster and promote the sport of sailplane and glider soaring.
