Has anyone tried to download the eDirectory from AOPA's website?
I have tried 3 different times on 3 different computers with 2 different versions of windows. I follow the directions and nothing happens. If anyone has tried this successfully, please give me an idea how it worked. Lou |

Hi Lou
I haven't specifically tried to download that but when I had problems with similar issues it was because my pop up blocker was blocking the file. You probably have the pop up blocker, on your tool bar, click on that and then click on "allow pop ups from", if that's what blocked it, it will appear there on a list and you can tell it to allow. If that isn't it, try temporarily disabling any firewall or Norton device you have active. Hope that helps. Don. |

You probably have the pop up blocker, on your tool bar, click on If they are set up that way it's as outdated as sites that require specific browsers. At least today's browsers allow us to permit them from specific sites if we wish to. I do not, but scripts are rendering that a moot point. that and then click on "allow pop ups from", if that's what blocked it, it will appear there on a list and you can tell it to allow. If that isn't it, try temporarily disabling any firewall or Norton device you I wouldn't do that for God. The firewall that is. Norton has never stopped anything for me yet from a web site. But shutting off the firewall for convenience is one of the reasons we have so many zombies spewing spam. Never, ever disable the firewall to download something. The average time to infection on broadband is less than one minute. You only have to set there once watching the firewall block attempts, or turn it off and have some one get in and it'll make a believer out of you. Earlier this week the computer to the right of me took over 4,600,000 attempts in _one_day. At times you could not make out the last two digits they were changing so fast. I've also set here and watched a bot sequentially probe the ports on this computer. When it failed it just started over. If I have to disable the firewall for an installation, I now physically disconnect the computer from the Internet. The last time I had the firewall off for a couple of minutes SpySweeper found three termites. have active. Hope that helps. Don. The download from AOPA for the eDirectory stuff uses a different port number - if I recall, the FTP port number. That is what's being blocked. *If* it's being blocked at your local PC then you can certainly open it up for a few minutes without problem. But if you are trying to run from behind a corporate firewall or some such, it is likely to be them that are blocking it. |
