PAX jet goes around after aborting landing at SEA

Portions of the Pacific Northwest experienced a massive windstorm last
night. (One million people in that region are presently without
power.) The following video captures a NWA jet aborting a landing in
favor of a go-around this morning after experiencing very gusty
conditions at Sea-Tac. Must have been fun to be in that plane!

I wonder if the gust was w/i company ops spec. We used to joke about
pilots who pushed company rules saying they had a "hot date" and needed
to get down.

thanks, fascinating video. How come in both attempts, the plane did not
start wobbling until just before it was about to touch down? Is wind
generally gustier at ground level?

I flew a Northwest 757 out of Seattle at 12:30 PM yesterday and it was a
little bumpy for the first few thousand feet, but not quite this bad.
Then again, takeoffs tend to be a little easier in the wind than
landings. It was definitely windy out there the last few days. I was
there from Tuesday night until yesterday and it was windy and rainy the
entire time.

I have landed in turbulence. All the planes coming in were bobbing on
final in the same place. Afterward someone (not a pilot) said, "I saw
you land. You must not know what you are doing because you moved
around a lot just before landing. Other than that, it was pretty good."

The winds were horrible here all night. At one time there were about 1,473,00
people without power. We were without power most of the day, and it appears
that there are hundreds of thousands still without power. It may take five
days to a week to restore power in some areas.

We must have been lucky at that. We live way out in the sticks and we have
our power back already.

One small plane flipped over at Boeing Field and landed on two other planes.
And two more planes there were damaged. I could not reach Tacoma Narrows at
all; the roads were all blocked by fallen trees and the power was out in the
whole area.

I have not seen that much rapid control movement on a heavy jet ever!

The pilot was working hard...

There is also the video from a few years ago of the DC-8 aborting a
landing at ONT due to the high wind.
