Landing after a perfect series of maneuvers during the airshow, this Super
Hornet blew the port tire. I was in line at the porta potty and heard the explosion. By time I got back to the flight line the aircrew was exiting the aircraft and the firetrucks were on the scene. The runway was then closed for the rest of the airshow. Seems Pensacola doesn't have the equipment to lift and repair a Super Hornet. |

Yeah, that was a bummer!! There was a delay of show of course. But with
the parallel runway the Skytypers could have performed safely. After all, they did it on the other runway the day before when the B-1B was blocking the same runway as the Super Hornet. It just would have meant keeping the Blue Angels on the payroll a little longer this year. Now it's done and they are in the transition mode, breaking in the new guys. (Very impressive change of command ceremony here yesterday.) Like I said, I was in the line for the porta potty (is that a mobile loo, Dave?) when he blew the tire. My friends said he did a 270 spin and the aircraft ended up backing off the runway into the soft turf. Reporters who gravitated to that end of the runway got excited when the fire truck went out to put out the fire. We had to explain to them the fire wasn't from the aircraft but was from the Jet Truck which had performed just a tad earlier. The grass was smoldering and starting to smoke. So, they sprayed it a little. Made for an impressive but entirely out of context foto, Tom "adelsonsl" wrote in message ... The S-3 Viking made a low, tight turn popping flares and started 3 fires on the other side of the runway. A rough couple of weeks for airshows, thank goodness no injuries. Rob |

Zowie!
Got her all cleaned up to display at the show and the boys end up backin' 'er thru the mud! Looks like the stbd stabilator took a little stress in the wrong way, just doesn't look like it's hangin' right. "Tom Callahan" wrote in message ...
