Is it possible to build an automated flight path file for download onto
Google Earth? An example would be patch and altitude for the RIPON Arrival into KOSH. If Google ever gets around to upadating that area to high res, it would be a good addition to the AirVenture website for those who do not have a copy of the video taped arrival. |

Ask over on rec.aviation.soaring - I believe that there is existing software to do this. -- Geoff The Sea Hawk at Wow Way d0t Com remove spaces and make the obvious substitutions to reply by mail When immigration is outlawed, only outlaws will immigrate. |

I know that if you have a series of lat/lon points, you can roll your own KML file with the points and Google Earth will accept it. On a car trip, I logged the raw serial-port output (NMEA sentences) of a GPS, then wrote a program to pull out the latitude and longitude data and put it in a KML file, which Google Earth then loaded with no problem. (Yes, I know there are programs that will do this for you, but that wasn't the point.) I don't know if it's possible to create a file that will draw lines on the Google Earth image or create a "fly-through" of defined points, but I suspect it is. If Google ever gets around to upadating that area to high res, it would be a good addition to the AirVenture website for those who do not have a copy of the video taped arrival. If you have a high-res picture of the area in question (preferably shot straight down), you can tell Google Earth to display it on top of whatever satellite images it has. This might only be practical for a relatively small area, though. Matt Roberds |

Someone wrote an addon to MSFS 2004 that fed Google Earth with your flight path in realtime, so that you could use GE for your outside display. Do a search for it. Kev |
