![]() I'm sure this has come up before, but let me ask again. I should get my PPL within a week or 2 depending on weather and schedules and maybe some luck. Is a gift to the CFI appropriate/traditional/required/expected? Thanks. |

appropriate.. sure
required .. no traditional.. not really expected.. probably not.. did you have a good relationship with him, was he "always there and always ready" for you did he go out of his way sometimes to work with your "weird schedule"? if he's a wine drinker.. do some research and get him a nice bottle.. $40 or more if he's married.. spend about the same on a gift card to a restaurant he can take the wife too.. Applebee's, Outback, etc (plan on dinner for two, no big drinking bill and no appetizers) BT "Ridge" wrote in message ... I'm sure this has come up before, but let me ask again. ![]() "Ridge" wrote in message ... Is a gift to the CFI appropriate/traditional/required/expected? In my experience a gift is neither expected nor required, but it may be appropriate. As a CFI I have never received one, but I have given a couple after passing checkrides. Once a big box of chocolates for whomever at the school, and another time an LED flightbag flashlight that I hope my ex-CFI will use to preflight his Boeing someday. YMMV |

I should add that I once received a nice bottle of Irish Creme to go in my
morning coffee.. on the days I was not flying. Much enjoyed while reading the Sunday morning paper. I am not a CFI so I don't know if it is expected or traditional, but when I received my PPL I gave mine a cash tip inside a thank-you card. Many of the younger CFIs do not make a lot of money and I know this one sincerely appreciated the Ben Franklin. I did the exact same for my CFI. Wonder if it was the same card too? :-) Mike Flyin' 8 |

I had many people at the flight school give me service over and above.
CFI Other CFI's who answered my quetions without promise of reward, Receptionists who looked after me and even reminded me to get my booking in because it was a good weather forecast for the weekend, Fuellers who gave me priority because they knew that I only had posession of the plane for a limited time, Maintenance staff who fixed squawks for mw right away, So when I passed, I had lunch catered to all of the staff. It was appreciated, and didn't cost an arm and a leg.
