Speaking of the Garmin handhelds I am trying to put in a user waypoint
referenced off a VOR for a couple of Fire TFR's that will affect me
Thursday. It was simple in my 295 but now with the 296 the manual
doesn't say anything about it. Anybody know how to input a user input
that is a radial and DME off of a VOR?

Try this:

Push Menu twice to get to main menu
Cursor up/down to Points
Left cursor
Push Menu
Select Create Waypoint
Push Enter
Push Menu
Select Project Location
Push Enter
resume own navigation

That doesn't seem to work. I want to make two waypoints. First is at
the GTF VOR 259R at 66.7 miles. Second is the CTB 197R at 46.4 miles.
This was pretty easy with the 295, seems to be impossible with the 296.

They didn't exactly make it obvious, did they? g

You know how to create proximity waypoints, right?

Yes, the 295 didn't do that. I put the red rings around the TFR's at
the listed distances. Then after going thru all that I went to the FAA
website to check on the TFR's as they tend to move with the fires.
Neither one is listed now. Doh! They must be updating them as the
fires will be burning until at least September.
