Art a single takeoff on a combat "mission" is a sortie. All the planes
in your formation constitute "x" number of sorties on that ONE
mission.

We flew 56 Marauders on every mission. Max effort every time.

So....that makes 56 sorties from your outfit on any given mission.
However then you add in all the sorties from other units going on the
SAME mission.

Uhhh Art...5 missions [combat sorties] per AM comes out to what? A
mere 1250 combat sorties.

You were a busy boy.

I flew a mere 50 missions. But I guess we can call that busy. Sort of more or
less. (grin)

Well, I've established from ACM Kramer (before the pointless abuse
alienated me entirely) that he never flew with more than 4,000lb
bombload, despite the fact the

Range baby range. Radius of action. Getting there and getting back. Eight 500
pounders on most missions flown in auto lean well throttled back at 180
IAS..The exceptions were when we carried incendiaries or the one Nepalm
mission. Glad when that one was over.
