Default New purchases for your plane from OSH ?

Well, how about it? What did everyone buy for their plane, or for your
renting planes, this year at OSH?

How is you purchase working out? Satisfied, or disappointed?

Nothing exciting to report. Bought a set of new tires/tubes for the Aztec.
Picked up a fuel transducer from JPI. Good deal, only $0.1amu vs over 3
times that normally. JPI also gave me a free cht probe. Next day the great
Paul-Mont picked up a AirGizmo XM antenna to 3/496 cable for a friend, also
$0amus.

Well, the Flying Tigers portrait is gonna look nice in the Flying
Tigers Suite. But Montblack, or Paul-Mont, hasn't delivered our
bundle of J-3 Cub ribs yet... (We always buy ribs at the FlyMart, for
use as "art" around the hotel.)

Seriously, this was the first year I bought absolutely nothing for the
plane. Not so much as a landing light. First time in 9 years of
ownership.

Funny, the only thing I bought for my plane was a landing light
(burned out on the way in). I've got it on the market now, so I'm
trying to limit my purchases until I figure out what I'll be flying
next. Lots of airplanes to look at though, fortunately I didn't leave
with more planes than I arrived with.

My brother and I had a completely different Oshkosh experience this year.
In a 10 minute span, he was asked if he "was a pilot" and got to answer
"yes" (got his ticket last August)....then I walked over to a counter and
purchased something for our plane (a $7 pitot tube cover ). A first for
both of us!

So, now we're experiencing OSH in a completely new light

I guess bigger is all relative. I'm going from the warbird to
something that is more useable for family transportation. Gross weight
might actually go down, but interior capacity will have to go way up.
I have to sell the current plane before really looking at anything
different. My long list of candidates includes 182, 210, Lance,
Cherokee Six, 206, SR20/22, Seneca, Malibu (all depends on whether it
is a partnership or an outright purchase). Probably one of the more
schitzophrenic lists of possible aircraft. My wife favors the Malibu,
but that depends on finding 2 or 3 partners who want the same plane.

I was down in the tent market with my son and saw something that
looked like a good idea. I'll call it a wrist writing tablet since I
don't know the name. It is really pretty nice. Has roll of paper on
two small reels that you can roll across a flat writing surface (about
2.5" tall by 1.5" wide). It also has a mechanical pencil that slides
into one of the reels. You use the velcro wrap to attach to your
wrist. With this gadget, you now have an endless writing surface and
pencil at hand at all times. I still find knee pad best for quickly
jotting down clearances, but love having all in route and
destination / alternate airport info on the scroll - you can just roll
your way through to find what you need. Came with 2 pencils (will use
regular mechanical pencil with tape on the end if you lose it) and 5
rolls of paper for $20. I've used it on 3 x-countries already and
really like it. Guy who designed it is a carpenter and he said he got
tired of always reaching for a pencil and paper. To look at it, you'd
think it was designed by a pilot.
