Todays Question of the Week on Avweb is:
"Should ADS-B avionics loans (similar to those proposed in Alaska) be offered to owners in Hawaii and the Lower 48, or should the government be even more involved?" The four possible responses a 1) Yes. The safe separation of air traffic is a federal mandate, and upgrading the equipment necessary should be the FAA's responsibility. 2) I can see it for commercial aircraft that routinely use the crowded airspace, but private owners should be on their own. 3) If you want to fly in that airspace, you should have to pay the full price, without taxpayer assistance. 4) Doesn't matter to me. I'll never fly where that gear is necessary. What they seem to miss is that ADS-B Out for most GA aircraft is not needed and provides little to no benefit. The "possible" benefit to commercial traffic is not even cast in concrete. This costly mandate...if it succeeds... may cost as much as $17,000 per aircraft and will not help keep GA healthy. There is another month to respond to this onerous NPRM which can be viewed he http://tinyurl.com/2raefd My response is he http://tinyurl.com/2wem8j Ron Lee |
