Smithsonian Air And Space has the P-38 "Glacier Girl" in
flight as it's current "cover girl". *Really* great cover shot by John Dibbs, with another fine photo of GG with a P-38J in similar OD/gray coloring in trail. http://www.airspacemag.com/ will have the cover shot and a brief fragment of the article. The article itself is more a very general rundown of GGs history, recovery and restoration, but some good pictures. Of course the Glacier Girl web site will have the details and some video from last years return to the air. About $4 million dollars to restore! The only P-38F flying (or in the world according to the article, yet ISTR another somewhere) and about 80% original. The plane was 100% complete when recovered with the only problems being all the pieces were broken! Winner of the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trophy (most faithful aircraft restoration) and the National Aviation Hall of Fame "People's Choice" Award, both from Oshkosh last year. *Really* nice job! SMH |
