I finally finished the rudder for the HP-24 today. It weighs without
mass balance 5 pounds. Wondering if any folks out there know what there rudder might weigh, with or without mass balance. I am curious where on the curve I am with the one I designed and built. I should say, this has an antenna inside and a lot of paint on it. I painted it with Prestec. After a few less than satisfactory spray results with a lacquer gun I went out and bought an HVLP conversion gun. Maybe because it is a really cheap gun, but the thing sucks. So I called Simtec, the makers of Prestec for some advice. I set the HVLP gun up as recommended, did a few test sprays on some cardboard, and immediately knew this was not going to work...............so I poured the paint into the lacquer gun, bumped the PSI to 45, opened up the flow rate and got the results I was after. The first cut was easily done with 600 grit wet, tomorrow I pick up a sleeve of 800, then on to 1000-1200-1500-2000 and the buff and cut process. So far am pretty happy, may have to fix a few pin holes, but we'll see. Cheers, Brad |

Don't worry about gelcoat not looking nice. It almost never does. It ain't paint! Fun watching you guys do your thing. Good Luck UH |
