In case anybody is interested in some background history of this a/c,
according to my WW1 expert advisor ....... It's a Nieuport 28 in the markings of US Navy squadron VF-3 in 1921. The two Vickers guns have been removed, as has the flotation gear from under the wings. About 12 of the 50 or so Nieuport 28s brought back to the US after the War were used by the Navy, mainly for short take off missions from platforms built over the gun turrets of battleships. The 28 was not a successful design. Avsec |
