I was able to snag comms from many Mil acft that abounded in Florida today from Key West down south all the way to Pinecastle Range in mid Florida. NY-ANG F-16s continued to work local ranges; some of them departed back to Syracuse, after a week's stay here. Many NASA T-38s came and went between NASA-KSC Shuttle Landing Facility and NASA-Johnson Space Ctr, Houston. Another MacDill acft reported his APU failure to start; seems to be an epidemic of this. Half-dozen or so Bu ICE (Fmr USCS) flights heard. APEX Flight: F-16, NY-ANG 174FW, Syracuse NY 8:45am: Working in Whiskey areas. 9:59am: Lands Patrick. Al has posted the OV-10D in the past. Of course I know this because I
had to go look it up on the net since I never saw one before. The "what's that funny dish" line is a classic. Nearly as good as the pilots at Red Flag that ask "What's that base" when they fly the Nellis ranges for the first time and discover a base not on the map. Dweezil Dwarftosser wrote in message ... A *State Dept.* OV-10?
Golly is "Air America" back in business? IIRC, these are connected with Columbian drug crop eradication efforts. True. About half of the OV-10Ds at Patrick have the spray apparatus on them. They fly sorties over the coca crop in Columbia, accompanied by State Dept armed UH-1Ns that are also based at Patrick. The OV-10Ds seldom return from a sortie without bullet holes. The OV-10Ds fly daily here at Patrick, training new pilots, many of them Columbians. AL STERN Satellite Beach FL |

It seems to me they could have retained the mini-guns and the bomb racks (rocket dispensers) and save the cost of the UH-1s! |
