Copied from Joe Baugher's web page http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html 56-1999 Douglas C-133A-15-DL Cargomaster purchased by Foundation for Airborne Relief as N199AR for modification as flying hospital. Due to FAA and possibly State Department restrictions, that concept went under. Initially went to Pima Air and Space Museum collection but returned to DM by 1975. Abortive sale to Dominican Republic which resulted in a Dominican registration of HI-246 for a brief period while still at DM. Purchased in Feb 1977 by Maurice Carlson of Anchorage, AK as N199AB. Now with Cargomaster Corporation of Anchorage, AK, made first flight Aug 29, 2002 after restoration. Reported to have been donated to Jimmy Doolittle Air and Space Museum at Travis AFB, CA in 2008. Departed Anchorage Aug 28, 2008, arrived Travis AFB Aug 30, 2008 |

Thanks, Mike; much appreciated. Must have been an impressive bird to hear and see when flying. They were impressive, we had a couple of them come into CAAF at Ft Campbell in about 1966 (IIRC) to load up a couple of our helicopters that were needed for rescue work during some floods in Texas, we pushed 2 of our birds in the one assigned to us and off they went.. looked a lot like big C-130's then.... |
