Did anyone notice on OLC the flight that Jim Payne flew on Sunday, 29
MAR 09? http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0...ml?dsId=738700 1,602.4 km at a "leisurly" 166.6 km/hr!!! And, he did it flying an ASW-27, not a new 18m ship such as LS10 or ASG29 or Ventus 2c... or JS1 or HpH-304S. Well done, Mr. Payne!!! Ray Lovinggood Carrboro, North Carolina, USA |

Perhaps the limiting factor in a high speed wave flight like Jim's is not glide performance, but Vne, which is nearly the same for the gliders you mention. Cue the DuckHawk... The IGC file did seem to report IAS or TAS, so I couldn't tell if that was a factor. -- Eric Greenwell - Washington State, USA * Change "netto" to "net" to email me directly * "Transponders in Sailplanes" http://tinyurl.com/y739x4 * Sections on Mode S, TPAS, ADS-B, Flarm, more * "A Guide to Self-launching Sailplane Operation" at www.motorglider.org |
