Anti collision lights mods for Arrow 1968??
Hi!
We are doing some major upgrade to our Piper Arrow 180hp. We are putting in a factory overhauled engine, upgrading the interior to leathcer (seats, panels, new carpeting), installing an S-TEC system 20 one axis autopilot, as well as a new Bendix/King KI208 indicator. This airplane did not come standard with the flashing white lights on the wingtips like the newer ones have. I guess they are called "anti-collision" lights or something like this? Is it possible to install these to this plane? Is there a mod for it? Anyone have any experience with installing them? What are the costs involved in this? Also, do they really make a big difference in visibility to other planes up there? I somehow think I see planes easier that have them on, but I rarely get the chance to see two planes at the same time while flying, one with and one without, so I can't really say... Anyway, any opinions welcome, also ane web sites to piper parts and mods would be appreciated! Thanks, Frode Berg LN-LMR |

I'm sure there's a mod for everything. Check out Lopresti's site (I don't have the URL but it's probably easy enough to google and probably obvious). His mods tend to make things faster too. Also, do they really make a big difference in visibility to other planes up there? I think so. Especially at night. Jose -- (for Email, make the obvious changes in my address) |

Thanks, Frode Berg LN-LMR I'm not sure about wingtip strobes, but I know you can add a strobe in the belly. It is visible from 360 degrees around the plane. HTH z |

Whelen wingtip strobes. Check the latest Spruce catalog. Comes with
the STC (if one is needed). When I had the fuel tanks out couple years ago (SB for the fuel lines and such) I had the wiring run to the tips, altho I didn't install the strobes at that time. With the wiring in place, adding the strobes is very simple. Translate that to mean *cheaper* since the lights themselves replace the existing single bulb red/green light unit with the white strobe & r/g position lights. |
