![]() I love good news like this. I went down to buy some queensland hoop pine marine plywood for my Turbulent today. I was asking the plywood supplier I use about the availability of plywood in 0.8mm or 1mm for the tail surfaces. the original maker in finland of finnish birch ply closed down some time last year and the thinner plywood vanished leaving 1.5mm as the thinnest available. however there is a new firm currently ramping up to production again. evidently there is not enough demand for GL1 aviation grade plywood so the new stuff will be GL3 marine grade plywood. my local supplier tells me we should have birch plywood available again in a few months. birch ply in marine grade should still be quite usable in aircraft work though. so Druine D3 Turbulent, Jodel D9, Corby Starlet anyone? you'll never regret building a little single seat wooden aeroplane. open cockpits in warm balmy weather is the best medicine.
