"Having the "right of way" only works if the other pilot see's you.
He can't "yield" to what he does not see." Of course! My comment was directed, through the readers, to those who would say that having gliders in the air is the problem. Having the right-of-way didn't help the tow pilot, maybe he couldn't see the Cirrus, maybe he saw it but not in time to maneuver; possibly he wasn't looking. Nonetheless, according to the accounts we have at present, it was the Cirrus pilot's fault because he was supposed to see and steer away. I don't like the general public pointing at us as culprits when accidents are clearly because of some one else. It didn't help the tow pilot any, but clearly the law is on his side, according to the descriptions given. Law suits will be against the Cirrus driver's insurance company, which is right and proper. |

For many people, having the right of way makes gliders even more the problem, if they look at powered flight as a means of general transportation and at gliders as an exclusive hobby of a few. |
