I've got one of the newer Volksloggers, with the rectangular connector
(hardware version 3.4, firmware version 3.6). No operating problem with it, but I have a preventive maintenance question on the 10 year old device. Old messages on RAS mention the presence of an internal battery, and say it's described in the manual. But my manual (edition 1.7.2, for my hardware and firmare) does not mention an internal battery at all. However, searching the web resulted in a recent NTSB report that shows a photo of a Volklogger of my exact hardware version and firmware version that clearly does have an internal battery, which NTSB says is "to maintain clock operation (and possibly presets)." http://www.ntsb.gov/Dockets/Aviation...317/430945.pdf Is my manual just plain deficient? If my Volkslogger really does have an internal battery, what will I experience when it runs out of juice, how long should it last, and who can replace it? -John |

When the battery is dead or low voltage the electronic security seal will be broken. This will show during startup. I can replace the battery and reset the seal. http://www.craggyaero.com/calibrate.htm Richard www.craggyaero.com |

Many thanks, Tim and Richard. So I have a potential problem...
Any ideas on how long the internal battery might last? -John On Feb 21, 2:57 pm, Tim Newport-Peace ] wrote: Is my manual just plain deficient? It's most important function is that it maintains the Electronic Seal, without which your flights would be 'insecure' and not acceptable for badges/records. It also maintains the Real Time Clock between flights. This is not critical because even if the RTC loses time, it is corrected once satellite communication is achieved. You can replace the battery, but only a Volkslogger Dealer can replace the electronic seal, so leave it to the dealer to replace the battery, then if the battery is faulty, it's his problem. Flights are stored in non-volatile memory, so are not lost if the battery fails. |

Thanks, Richard. When I get back from Florida I'll call to arrange
battery changing and calibration. -John On Feb 21, 5:38 pm, Richard wrote: On Feb 21, 2:29 pm, jcarlyle wrote: Many thanks, Tim and Richard. So I have a potential problem...
