As a glider pilot, I tend to look up at the clouds more than I look at the ground, and find them fascinating even when I'm not flying. A friend of mine sent me this link and it's amazing. Large scale patterns are readily visible when viewed from a higher vantage point. In particular are the Von-Karmen Vortex Sheets forming behind islands, and the really visible effect of water, i.e. rivers and lakes, interfering with cumulus cloud development. If you click on each image, you're treated to a really large hi-quality version of the photo. |
