Hi all
Deep link to the Chicago Trib's slideshow: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/n...7.photogallery The inboard engine on the Pilot's wing has feathered props. Is that engine No. 2? Also, Dan McHale's photos and aerial photos show a wheels-down landing and roll out. Too bad it didn't make the airfield .... they might've saved it. /Stetson On 6/13/11 16:28 , wallyboy wrote: On 2011-06-13 15:12:14 -0500, wallyboy said: I'm posting this blind, so someone else may have posted it. That looked like the best possible wheels-down landing he could have made. It is obvious he didn't want to belly in. It is just sad that he didn't make the runway where the emergency fire response might have had a better chance at suppressing the fire. Does anybody know the distance from the corn field to the runway? ....and without second guessing, whether it would have been worth the risk to those on board to attempt to make the runway? Well he still made a good landing, but lost the gamble on controlling the fire. ....and we still have "Aluminum Overcast" & from what I understand 13 others still flying. http://www.b17.org/ -- Regards, Savageduck |
