The Vulcan had a harmonic that made a screaming/howling noise on takeoff
roll prior to rotation. very impressive sound. You can hear it at 1:32 on

Some years ago I saw a video of this simulated scramble, after the
Vulcan had been fitted with Olympus engines. The first three took
off as described above, but the last one used up a lot of runway, then
stayed low for a kilometre or two before heading skywards in a near
vertical climb. Apparently, when they hit the start buttons (or
whatever they used) two of the engines failed to start, so they took
off on the other two and air-started the failed ones!
