Hm. An engineering challenge - how to defend a flying boat from
below. I guess these bubbles served both as belly gunner and tail gunner positions.

I was told at an air show, that they were designed that way to allow
fantastic observation for search & rescue, anti sub, and patrol duties. Power turrets would not do as well, and would cost too much, They had an observation position in the pedestal also.

As far as I know, some early "Cat's" had a .303 as a stinger gun in a belly
hatc to the rear of the last step. Claus Gustafsen "Bob Taylor" skrev i meddelelsen ... Hm. An engineering challenge - how to defend a flying boat from below. I guess these bubbles served both as belly gunner and tail gunner positions.
