It's time again to tell Highflyer we're coming and make the annual descent upon
the flatland of southern Illinois. I'm going, of course. The opportunity to stand around in a hangar with a crowd of certified geniuses who dress like hoboes (attack of the bright shirts!), drink beer, laugh a lot and tell stories all night cannot compete with other obligations, which means in my case I'll miss my own graduation ceremony. Details available on request, but you must inquire in person. If you'd sampled the tenderloin and lasagna at last year's cookout, you'd be packing right now. We know the weather won't keep away Michael and Tina, nor Gary and April, nor the beloved Lucy with her pilots Sydney and Rod. Nauga is under orders to fly 24/7 till he gets the time in to bring his new RV-4, and with luck the Red Lady won't sit in the rain so we can get rides in Highflyer's little spamcan :-) I hope to find another 2-handled kite or two for the amusement of the nonpiloting, and rather hope some folks will bring musical instruments, as I yearn for the fabled RAH-15 gatherings of yore with their legendary attendance and spontaneous performance events. After all, to quote the venerable Dr Quincy Kevorkian from a post of questionable scientific veracity some years ago, "Actual mating requires that the adult and adolescent ilk fly to the great mating ground in the nest of the Great Midwestern Ilk in Pinckneyville IL the weekend before the American Holiday Memorial Day." You may get a waiver to decline the actual mating, but the gathering is not to be missed! |

What's the date, Stella?
Here's the host's informational post - a swell fella with a great event I attended for the first time just to meet some of the cordial folks I'd seen on the groups and enjoyed reading. Didnt even know about the RAH-15, a story anyone will be happy to tell you...in person! Highflyer sez: This years RAH gettogether at Pinckneyville is scheduled for May 21, 22, and 23. Fly in, drive in, bicycle, or walk! Just come on down. Free camping on the field. If you want motels, the local motel is the Main Street Inn, 618-357-2128 for reservations. The local B&B is the Oxbow Bed and Breakfast, 618-357-9839 for reservations. When those two fill up it gets trickier. The next closest town is DuQuoin, Illinois. There are several motels there. We have a credit card 100LL pump on the field and the fuel price was still $2.30 a gallon the last time I checked. If you are big on mogas let me know. I have a mogas tank on my pickup and can make fuel runs. It only holds 50 gallons so we may have to make several runs. The weather is going to be great this year. I have asked for no rain that entire week. :-) Mary is working up the meals, starting with thursday night and winding up with lunch on Sunday. She would appreciate it if you drop her an email at if you are planning to come so she can figure the groceries we need to get. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
