"BTW, someone else on this news group is still flying ZAP. Maybe he'll join
it. Dan" Hi Dan, A soaring club buddy pointed out this thread to me about our common interest, an ASW-19, contest ID "ZAP". I still have her, and she has been a great ship for me to learn and gain confidence in XC soaring. I have tried to be a good steward with her, and have updated/upgraded her as best as time and financials have permitted. The result has been that she has been a great ship for me to learn XC flying in, and I have been able to progress in her from Bronze all the way to Gold Badge, and have 1 leg of the Diamond knocked off as well for good measure (Goal). (Thanks go to for the Soaring Society of Boulder and their annual Dalhart XC camp as well to accomplishing that achievement!!) Unfortunately, I have not been able to fly her as much this year as last, and am now in the process of getting her ready for sale to help finance and facilitate my transition into another version of soaring that will allow me, with my busy schedule, to soar at a time and place of my choosing-Self-Launching or Motorgliders. I have a good friend with a Ximango M/G, and flying with him and seeing the ease, freedom and independence he has to launch, loiter, recover and put away as a solo pilot has been motivational enough for me to decide to make the transition. I still have the email you sent me regarding the details of how you obtained her all those years ago, and I have printed them out and made them a part of the aircraft records and paperwork that will convey to the next lucky owner! That is STILL a great story, by the way! I hope you're doing well, Merry Christmas, and if you know someone looking for a gentle-handling, well-cared-for and appreciated ASW-19, send them my way! Hi Rob,
I, too, completed my Gold Badge with Diamond Goal in ZAP while I was a member of TSA in Midlothian, TX. I took her to Colorado when I moved and sold her to an instructor at the AF Academy to get the money to buy 1/2 of an LS-6a. Great ship, fond memories... Dan "RAS56" wrote in message ...
