Hi All,
I've scoured the web and magazines looking for a kitplane (that's available in the U.S.) that has the flying characteristics, AND cockpit visibility equal to or better than the Diamond DA-20 C1. For those of you that may not know, the C1 is equipped with a fuel injected 125 hp conti. The characteristics are low fuel burn, 135kt cruise, gentle mush/stall at 37 kts with flaps, and VERY fun to fly. Anyone? |

Hash: SHA1 Simon, Naw, flown both the Europa & the DA-20. The DA-20 is clearly better visibility wise. In the other hand, all planes of the "egg on a stick" design have similar performance characteristics, that is speed for HP and that signature low drag coefficient. The Europa is a cool kit, but the ergonomics are much different, and the
visibility is not quite as good, especially down. If you are compfortable in it though, there are a lot of other huge plusses (trailer option, glider wings, engine choices, fuel economy). Its hard to narrow down based on what you said you liked. If its just visibility, you are looking for, then you might want to look at a tandem plane, especially the pusher type. Another thing to look for would be the 85hp rotax version of the Katana. These things can be had for nearly the price of a homebuilt. They are not as fast though. If you want glass, then you could look at the new lancair fiberglass kit, or even a glassair, but these are not stable cruisers like the Katana trainer. |

Anyone? http://www.harbornet.com/folks/shankland/cp323a.jpg is a close match to your specs.. Build it light and get the bank loan for the new Continental. Only real problem is scrounging all the parts to make a "kit". Might have to slightly modify the airfoil to get the stall you want. The FTF (Fun to Fly) coefficient is all there, though. Rich S. |

Hash: SHA1 Steve, You might also look at the KIS TR-1 2 or 4 place kit. Now owned by Pulsair. Look at the Atec Zephyr. www.AtecAviation.com
It looks exactly like a Katana but the performance figures are much better and the endurance and fuel consumption are great. It is not available yet as a kit, only as a completed aircraft, but should qualify for the proposed LSA. The first 3 to be imported to the US are almost ready for delivery. Kits are not available yet in the US as they have not been approved under
the 51% rule. Also the factory is not to keen on selling kits as they have a PERFECT safety record with over 115 sold world wide because all have been factory built, to date, where they can maintain quality control.
