A long way from the Gulf, but...
Raleigh-Durham airport (RDU) recorded a 79 mph gust as a line of
thunderstorms associated with Ivan swept across the Carolinas and Virginia today. In addition to some relatively minor damage to buildings, several small airplanes were damaged (upside down, tails twisted, that sort of thing). The airport spokesperson mentioned about 12 damaged planes on the evening news. http://www.wral.com/news/3739785/detail.html
