The pilot survived, according to initial reports. A Coast Guard rescue boat and several military rescue units were dispatched to the scene about 3 p.m., after receiving calls about a downed aircraft from several witnesses. Patrick Nichols, a spokesman at Pensacola Naval Air Station, confirmed that a Blue Angel had gone down in the gulf but said the pilot ejected from the jet before it crashed. The Blue Angels' public affairs staff had not yet released a public statement about the incident this afternoon, nor had they released the pilot's name. |

It's always sad to see a hero go down - kinda makes us all that bit more vulnerable. Tony The only difference is this hero has an ejection seat! |
