Yea it was a bit , we lost a guy out the C-124 door on a night jump, when
his reserve opened inside the plane , the airflow by the door grabbed it
and out he went, just about broke his back, we didn,t find him for hours..
light duty for months while he recovered..
( dummy forgot to keep the reserve handle covered with his hand. )

Yikes! That story reminds me of why my Dad didn't join the paras, something
about how nuts it is to leave a perfectly good airplane.

As anyone involved with flying will tell you
there never is or ever will be a "perfectly good airplane"

they all have a squawk sheet, to tell the mechanics what needs to be
fixed... or let the pilot knows which parts are on order...or back-order.

Thanks John for the B-17 pics. But on this current subject,
do you have that funny document about orders for repairs
which the mechs sent back with humorous responses?

Speaking of the cancelled C-132, the Soviets came out with this megapropper
in the early '60s. The An-22 was about the same in engine horsepower,
specifications, and projected performance. When it was unveiled at the Paris
Air Show in 1965, the Russkies allegedly said to U.S. military officials,
