(I haven't posted a shamelessly self-promotional message about GPS Visualizer for a few months now, so it seems overdue...) GPS Visualizer -- http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ -- is a free web-based program that takes your GPS data, in a variety of forms, and generates customizable maps or profiles in standard browser-viewable SVG format. Here's some of what makes GPSV so useful: * It's free. (But donations are warmly welcomed!) * A wide range of input file formats, including IGC log files. * A wide range of choices for background maps, including: - Truly excellent digital background maps for Canada - Aerial photos and USGS topo maps for the U.S. - Satellite maps of Central Europe (and North America too, of course) * You can colorize your data according to any variable -- including speed or heading, even if your input file didn't include those. * Elevation & speed profiles. (Or use colors to plot both elevation AND speed... or plot latitude vs. heading... or anything else!) * The maps are interactive: labels can be moved or removed, and the backgrounds' position can be adjusted. * It's platform-independent (works great on both Mac AND Windows), because it runs on-line. * The owner (that's me) is very responsive to problems and suggestions for improvement. Once again, the URL is: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ Have fun! Adam Schneider http://adamschneider.net |
