Some aircraft names should be retired permanently, Corsair, Mosquito, Mustang, Warthog, Spitfire. Eagle, Sabre. Hellcat, Tomcat, Buff, etc. The RAF is just beginning the 3rd round of "Lightning" (though only received 3 P-38s without superchargers). "Globemaster" is another name with three ticks (though the first one, C-74, wasn't really used much operationally; only 14 being built) - but great name for the mission. |
