Hi all,
A report from a recent short visit to NAS Oceana. It seems that there have been a lot of changes with codes from the Tomcats. All serials marked with a * have been looked up in recent reports and/or the Scramble database. Any help on the gaps will be gratefully received. Although the weather wasn't what I hoped for, we managed to get some pictures as well. They are at www.afterburner.nl/oceana.htm Maurice NAS Oceana, 9 February 2005 between 13.30-16.30h LT Visitors: 165957 / BH-957 KC-130J VMGR-252 165813 / AA-601 E-2C VAW-125 1x SH-60 nn Blue coloured tail, anyone? 1x C-130 USAF far end, might be special ops a/c T-264 KDC-10 334 sqn Based aircraft: VF-11 (Super Hornets operating from VFA-106): F-14B: AG-100, AG-101, AG-102, AG 103, AG-106, AG-107, AG-110, AG-111, AG-112, AG-114, AG-115 F/A-18F: 166623/AG-236, AG-237, AG-240, AG-241, AG-242, AG-243 VF-31: F-14D: 164342/AJ-100, 164603/AJ-101, AJ-102, AJ-103, AJ-105, AJ-106, AJ-107, AJ-110, AJ-111, AJ-112 VF-101: F-14B: 162694/AD-100*, 162691/AD-102*, 161426/AD103*, 161433/AD-105* F-14D: 163900/AD-155*, 163894/AD-156*, 163896/AD-157*, 163897/AD-161*, 164345/AD-165*, 163895/AD-167* VF-143: F-14B: 163220/AG-100, 163407/AG-101, 161873/AG-104*, 162926/AG-105, 162700/AG-107, 161441/AG-110*, 162701/AG-111*, 162924/AG-114* VF-213: F-14D: AJ-200, AJ-201, AJ-203, AJ-204, AJ-205, AJ-207, AJ-210, AJ-211, AJ-212, AJ-213 VFA-15: F/A-18C: 164627/AJ-300*, 164643/AJ-302*, 164646/AJ-303*, 164661/AJ-305*, 164691/AJ-306*, 164673/AJ-310*, 164680/AJ-311*, 164631/AJ-312*, AJ-313, 164657/AJ-314* VFA-34: F/A-18C: 165214/AA-200*, AA-202, 165216/AA-203, 165218/AA-204, 165401/AA-205*, 165403/AA-207, 165227/AA-210, 165406/AA-212*, 165405/AA-214 VFA-81: F/A-18C: 163471/AA-400, 163444/AA-401, 163491/AA-403, 163435/AA-404*, 163495/AA-405*, 163477/AA-406*, 163502/AA-407*, 163462/AA-410, 163493/AA-411*, 163483/AA-413* VFA-83: F/A-18C: 164201/AA-300, 164217/AA-303*, 164218/AA-304*, 164225/AA-306*, 164226/AA-307*, 164234/AA-310*, 164240/AA-311, 164250/AA-312, AA-314 VFA-87: F/A-18C: 164687/AJ-400*, 164630/AJ-405, 164628/AJ-407*, 164632/AJ-410, AJ-412 VFA-103 (operating from VFA-106): F/A-18F: 166621/AA-100, 166620/AA-103, AA-225, AA-226, 166622/AA-232, AA-241, AA-243 VFA-106: F/A-18E: 166420/AD-101, 165540/AD-102*, AD-106, AD-111, AD-114 F/A-18F: AD-200, AD-202, AD-207 F/A-18C: 164238/AD-300*, 163761/AD-301, AD-305, 163461/AD-324*, 163430/AD-325*, 163478/AD-331* F/A-18D: 163457/AD-400*, 163472/AD-403*, 163460/AD-405*, 163468/AD-406*, 163997/AD-430*, 164038/AD-431*, 164043/AD-433*, 164014/AD-434*, 164024/AD-437*, 164263/AD-440*, 164228/AD-441 VFA-131: F/A-18C: 165217/AG-400, 165224/AG-406* VFA-136: F/A-18C: AB-300, AB-302, AB-305, AB-307, AB-313, 164214/AG-310* VFC-12: F/A-18A: 162470/AF-11 F/A-18B: 161748/AF-14 Other: 163119/MB-212 F/A-18A VMFA-142 inside hangar 160648/2 T-34C SFWSL Blue Angels c/s NAS Oceana 10 February 2005 between 08.00-09.00h LT Visitor: 164488/AG-601 E-2C VAW-121 |

You mean they are aircraft with markings of their final destination squadrons, but now under the administrative control of VFA-106? It looks like VF/VFA -11 and -143 having a double sets of aircraft - one still of Tomcats, and the second of Super Hornets... BTW, VFA-143's F/A-18E AG-402 was seen at Lemoore, so I would assume VFA-211 and VFA-143 are the last Oceana squadrons transitioning in VFA-122 at Lemoore, whereas VFA-103 and VFA-11 the first transitioned by VFA-106. Right? Best regards, Jacek Zemlo |

Sorry, but what exactly means "operating from VFA-106"? You mean they
are aircraft with markings of their final destination squadrons, but now under the administrative control of VFA-106? SORRY! It was a stupid question of mine, indeed! - of course, you wrote about it in your article. I just wondered if that was a common practice...If so, the number of aircraft in a FRS must be really fluid... Best regards, Jacek |
