My youngest brother and I are are taking middle brother Dave to OSH this
year. Dave's getting steadily worse from Lou Gehring's disease (ALS or Motor Neuron Disease), and now needs a CPAP machine at night. We will be towing a camper, and will need either an AC hookup, or will need to run a generator at night. I've talked to EAA about handicapped parking, and they say that there are no hookups, but there is a handicapped designated area that is "generator friendly". I plan on taking my small genset for this purpose, but it's not very quiet. We've never been to Oshkosh (we're all pilots, have been talking about going for years; now it's "this year or maybe never" for Dave). How "friendly" is "generator friendly"? Should I jerry rig a sound deadening enclosure for the genset? We would much rather not run the generator all night, but Dave needs AC for his breathing machine, and to charge his wheelchair. He will also be more comfortable sleeping with air conditioning, too, but this is less important. The camper is air conditioned, and the genset can handle that, too. Any chance of a place close enough to a hangar to run an extension cord? EAA was not very helpful in this regard. I would appreciate some advice from experienced people. Thanks. We plan on arriving on the 25th. -- Bob (Chief Pilot, White Knuckle Airways) |
