91.175 and 91.177 are the operative regulations, and they apply in Class G
airspace in the United States. Peter wrote: FAR 91.175 (a) suggests that it is not permitted to carry out a descent in IMC except on an official published IAP. Any views on this? A cruise clearance still requires compliance with 91.177 and 91.175.
