Default Interesting day for flying in the ADIZ

Well today our mid-day run started out rather boring. The first hour we
were cruising for accidents. Nothing to be found. Then the call come in
from my observers boss. Head to baltimore and see what's going on. Once
we joined the party over the tunnels the fun started back and forth to
see which roads were closed and how bad the backups were. After a hour
and half of running around the major roads of Baltimore they opened the
tunnels and we were able to head home.

We flew directly over BWI and headed strait for home base. This took us
over directly over Andrews AFB. Wow did the show start and I did not
pack my camera in my flight bag.

As we approached Andrews we saw something big in the pattern, Not
abnormal. There are KC-135's and KC-10's based there. As we got closer
it was apparent the plane was not a tanker. It was bigger. I looked at
my observer and he looked at me. It was a VC-10 (Air Force one) doing
touch and goes in the pattern! How cool. We came in at 2000 feet and the
VC-10 was at 1500. It flew directly under us! All I could say was I did
not pack my camera, I did not pack my camera! Damn, Damn, Damn.......

I will probably never get an opportunity like that again.

Michelle
