Douglas built them tough...

Yes, but so did Boeing (you've seen the photos of B-17s that came back
with most of the tail missing) and the Grumman Iron Works (Fly Boys
contains a photo of a TBF/TBM flying with half a wing on one side.

about the F-15 that lost it's entire right wing in a mid air - and
landed safely at 290 knots.

There are also a number of stories of 707's that lost large wing
sections and made it. Pan Am 843 had a and engine explode, which
ignited a fuel tank, which burned off 28 feet of wing. But it landed
safely.

turned up nothing.
