Ok....FAR 61.57 is the only place where IFR currency
is address for sailplane/gliders. That's it! However, airships, like the Goodyear Blimp flies IFR/IMC. It is usually addressed in the POH of the sailplane. Now on the IFR clearances, just request it. If the sailplane is certified as experimental, your operation limitations will state what is required. FAR 91.205 only address AIRPLANES & Helicopters. Again, good common sense is need in cloud flying. It is fun & exhilarating! Many years ago there was an Advisory Circular that was published by the FAA on IFR flying sailplanes. It was cancelled due to the fact the JAR was including in the certification process cloud flying equipment required. Again, look in your POH. Send me your ques...Be glad to answer them. As I mentioned to Snoop...the SSA does not want to publish my article because of the small interest group that is out there. Call SSA, ask them, maybe they may change there mind....Anyway..I am in Iraq till 10 Oct. Fly safe.. Shawn |
