A few changes to GPS Visualizer lately which are worth announcing:
* Google Maps: a lot of changes here, although a few are under the hood where most people won't notice them. The most notable is the ability to have GPS Visualizer automatically generate a list of waypoints and display it next to the map. You can click on the items in the list to pop up the markers' info windows, or just mouse-over them to see the corresponding "tooltip" on the map. Here's an example: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/example...rker_list.html * When creating Google Earth files from tracks, you can now choose to have every trackpoint turned into something like a waypoint, that when clicked upon shows you all the available data for that point (speed, altitude, etc.) Look for "Draw as waypoints" under Track Options in the GE form: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map?form=googleearth * Input files can now be zipped (.zip) or gzipped (.gz). I don't know if anyone will take advantage of this, but it does save upload time. * A few more input file formats are supported, thanks to GPSBabel. (If you upload, for example, a .gdb or .mps binary file, the server uses GPSBabel to convert the file to GPX and then reads it normally.) * I'm still trying to figure out ways to make it easy to make maps from geotagged photos. For now, GPS Visualizer will recognize useful fields called "url" and "thumbnail" in plain-text data and will use them to build a map with pop-up thumbnails at the relevant locations. Example: http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/example...photo_map.html Have fun, and please let me know if you run into any problems. If you're not yet familiar with GPS Visualizer's "Do-It-Yourself Mapping," please visit the home page (http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/), check out the examples, etc. Adam Schneider Portland, OR adamschneider.net www.gpsvisualizer.com |
